A Ukrainian fighter with the call sign “Mucnoy” reports that the battles are now taking place in the western part of the city — the same area Röpcke marked on his own map. He warned that if Russian troops increase their momentum and pressure, “the city could be trapped and turned into a brutal urban cleanup.”
According to Ukrainian military sources, the fiercest fighting is around the industrial zone in the northwest. Mucnoy wrote that “if this site falls, the city will lose its core — it will become a shattered ruin, impossible to move through.”
Russian sources confirm their forces are active around Pervomayka, the railway station, and the nearby village of Durnyak. Small Russian assault groups are filtering into the center — not to hold ground yet, but to destabilize and fragment Ukrainian lines. This has turned western Pokrovsk into one large “gray zone” of overlapping positions.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian channels like Deep State show this zone as much smaller than others estimate, suggesting a growing disconnection between official and field reports.
Russian Drones Dominate the Skies
Another serious problem for Ukrainian forces is Russian drone superiority.
“Enemy drones hang over the city constantly, working around the clock — there’s no rest, no safe cover. Artillery finishes off what’s left, and the civilian part of Pokrovsk is disappearing from the map, turning into a gray ghost shattered by explosions,” said Mucnoy.
Russian units are also reported to be advancing toward Grishino, northwest of Pokrovsk — a key supply route for the Ukrainian garrison.
Ukrainian Volunteer Liliya Belyak, citing a medic from Ukraine’s 59th Brigade, said that due to constant drone strikes on vehicles, wounded soldiers wait up to four days for evacuation.
“It’s become much harder to work because of fiber-optic drones. One evacuation vehicle rarely manages even five trips. Russians place drones along the roads, watch our routes, and strike our vehicles when we return. And after the first hit, they launch several more drones immediately after,” Belyak relayed.
She added that due to a lack of armored or anti-drone-protected vehicles — and no electronic warfare cover — evacuation from Pokrovsk is “almost impossible.” In some units, there are no evacuation vehicles left at all.
The Bigger Picture
The situation for Ukrainian forces is dire. Street battles are underway in the western districts — the last major supply corridor into the city. Russian drones have effectively paralyzed logistics in all directions.
However, seveeal Russian sources also note that their troops have not yet fully consolidated control inside Pokrovsk. They are advancing through infiltration tactics — small, dispersed units slipping through urban ruins to avoid drone strikes.
A similar pattern is unfolding in Kupyansk: Russian troops are seen throughout the city, but Ukrainian positions persist, creating prolonged, grinding street battles.
Both cities share the same dynamic:
1. Neither is yet fully encircled, allowing Ukraine to rotate troops and bring supplies — at heavy cost.
2. Kiev appears to have made a political decision to hold them at any price, to deny Russia a symbolic victory.
But as past experience shows, once fighting reaches this stage, these cities typically end up falling to Russian control — something even Ukrainian sources now openly acknowledge.
