Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said on TVN24 that European allies will assure Zelensky they will continue support if Kiev chooses to keep fighting.

France will keep pushing for Ukraine to become a part of the EU
Benjamin Haddad, Minister Delegate for European Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry, intends to visit Ukraine in September to discuss its accession to the European Union.
In an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, Haddad stated:
Ukraine has the sovereign right to choose its alliances and its political direction. European Union, NATO: it is not up to Russia to have a veto over Ukraine's political future. Let us remember that during the Maidan revolution of 2014, for the first time in history, young people died for the European flag. It is this aspiration that Putin wanted to kill in 2014. A free and European Ukraine will be a victory for Ukrainians. Moreover, applying for EU membership is a demanding and lengthy process, which involves far-reaching reforms to guarantee the rule of law, the fight against corruption, the independence of the judiciary, the protection of minorities, etc. France supports Ukraine on this path. I will be in Ukraine in September to continue our discussions: the objective is to quickly open the first part of the negotiations.

Trump expects to hold a trilateral meeting with Russia and Ukraine as early as August 22.
According to Western media sources, Trump informed European leaders that he will start organizing a summit between the three countries if the talks with Zelensky on Monday, August 18, are successful.
European leaders were not directly invited to the talks between Trump and Zelensky on Monday.
This was reported by Michaela Küfner, chief editor of the politics department at Deutsche Welle.
"But Zelensky was made to understand that he can bring European partners with him. What exactly this means is currently being clarified, and we expect decisions to be made based on this," Küfner said, citing sources in the German government.

Trump’s envoy Witkoff called U.S.–Russia agreements on Ukraine’s security “breakthrough.” He said Washington and Moscow have already reached a deal, and now the decision rests with Kiev.
According to Witkoff, Russia agreed to legally bind itself not to seize more territory once peace is signed, while the U.S. would provide security guarantees comparable to NATO’s Article 5. He added that Russia had made “concessions” regarding five Ukrainian regions — reportedly meaning withdrawal from Sumy, Kharkov, and Dnepropetrovsk, and limiting claims in Kherson and Zaporozhye to already controlled areas.
Zelensky however already rejected the territorial issues, saying Ukraine’s constitution forbids “giving up or trading land.”

Macron dismissed Russia’s peace proposals as “capitulation,” speaking at a videoconference of the so-called “coalition of the willing.”
He insisted there can be no territorial discussion without Kiev’s “democratically elected leaders” and tied any settlement to Western security guarantees — including funding and sustaining Ukraine’s army.
Macron declared the Ukrainian military itself is the “first pillar” of such guarantees.
The “second pillar,” he said, is the deployment of Western troops inside Ukraine.
According to Macron, several states are ready to send forces for training, logistics, and presence in “non-frontline” areas, and the U.S. will be asked to join.

In the Dobropillya-Bilozerske direction, both Russian and Ukrainian forces have been advancing, with Ukrainian forces making significant progress towards eliminating the Russian wedge to Zolotyi Kolodyaz.
Ukrainian forces re-established control over the village of Hruzke and the gulley running southwards, before pushing into Vesele from multiple directions, where they recaptured it and the surrounding areas.
To the west, after a failed attempt at entering it, the Ukrainians attacked Zolotyi Kolodyaz from the forests to the west again and broke through to the centre of the village. Fierce fighting ensued for around 24 hours, with the Russians being forced to retreat south due to the loss of Vesele and Hruzke, as well as because of Ukraine's numerical superiority here. Those same forces then pushed south and have reached the northern outskirts of Kucheriv Yar.
Additionally, after days of positional battles, Ukrainian forces pushed east from their positions in Rubizhne, and recaptured the rest of the village, which Russia had to withdraw from due to the loss of Zolotyi Kolodyaz. From there, Ukrainian forces pushed further and captured treeline positions on the nearby tactical heights, and in the gulley leading south from Zolotyi Kolodyaz.
To the south, the Ukrainians pushed outwards from Stepy, establishing a buffer zone in the treelines on the tactical heights there, while other forces moved along the heights to Vilne, which also came under their control.
Furthermore, Ukrainian forces advanced east from Novyi Donbas, and entered the village of Nove Shakhove, capturing the western houses. They were also able to recapture the village of Ivanivka, as well as Dorozhnje, which allowed for them to re-enter Nykanorivka which is now partially in the grey zone.
Russian forces on the other hand, were able to improve their positions west of Shakhove around a week ago, advancing downhill through two parallel gulleys, capturing positions in the forest plantations there.

The Russian military received an order to continue its offensive on the frontline immediately after the meeting between Putin and Trump.
According to sources in the General Staff, Gerasimov signed the order a few hours after the president boarded the plane.
The telegrams sent to the headquarters emphasized the need to "increase the intensity of offensive operations" and "create maximum pressure on the enemy" within the next few days.
According to the sources, the focus is on simultaneous attacks in the Sumy, Donetsk, and Kharkov regions.
Several officers on the ground say that the order took the group by surprise, as the command had demanded that the equipment be prepared and the reserves be deployed more quickly, even though the planned supply of ammunition had not yet been completed. However, during Putin's flight to Alaska, the troops were able to establish a foothold for an offensive in these key areas of the front.
Zelensky in the U.S. is reportedly ready to accept a peace settlement along the current front line, according to the Financial Times, citing a Ukrainian official.

“To achieve this, Zelensky is prepared to accept a compromise based on the current front line — one that Ukrainians could agree to,” the official told FT.

Russia is preparing to deliver a “powerful strike” on the Zaporozhye front, transferring units there from the Sumy region, according to Ukraine’s commander-in-chief Syrsky.
He said that Russian forces are currently conducting “low-intensity operations” near Zaporozhye, but their goal is the “entire region,” aiming to break through defenses and advance deeper into Ukrainian-held territory.
“The situation at the front is indeed difficult. Russia continues its strategic offensive. The enemy is regrouping and concentrating on two main axes. The first is the Pokrovsk direction, which remains decisive for them. Now they are shifting units from Sumy to Zaporozhye. This will become the second front where the enemy intends to launch active offensive actions,” Syrsky stated.
Azerbaijani media reported details of the Russian strike on the SOCAR oil depot in Odessa region.
According to the reports, the attack resulted in multiple direct hits, sparking a fire. All storage tanks were damaged along with the pumping station, control and weighing facilities, technical buildings, and the perimeter fence.
The same depot was struck earlier on August 8, Minval noted. On August 6, Russian forces also hit the Orlovka gas metering station, which had been used to pump Azerbaijani gas into Ukraine.
The Guardian writes that the planned arrival of so many European leaders in Washington for Trump’s meeting with Zelensky is a sign of panic.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive in the Sumy region has "suffered a defeat and is currently completely halted." At the same time, he claims that the "Kursk operation" allegedly "disrupted last year's Russian plans."
The head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces named two key directions of the Russian offensive: Pokrovske and Zaporizhzhia. He also acknowledged that Russia is using a new "thousand cuts" tactic — advancing with small assault groups across a wide front, which, according to him, "complicates defense."
The Ukrainian Armed Forces are betting on "high-tech weapons, robotic platforms, and unmanned systems" to somehow compensate for the catastrophic shortage of personnel. 15,000 ground robotic platforms are planned to be delivered to Ukraine.
Russia is preparing active offensives in the Pokrovske and Zaporizhzhia directions. The situation on the front is difficult.
We want all brigades to be staffed at 80-90%. But both the intensity of combat operations and the capabilities of the Russian Federation, which currently outnumbers us threefold, impose certain limitations.

Ukraine needs $45 billion in external financing, these funds are still not available — the country's finance minister Marchenko.

Budapest has accused Ukraine of yet another strike on a pipeline supplying Hungary, forcing deliveries to stop.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó made the announcement without specifying the exact location of the attack.
“Reminder to Ukrainian decision-makers: electricity from Hungary plays a vital role in keeping your country’s power system running,” Szijjártó warned.
Less than a week ago, he had already stated that Ukraine carried out a drone strike on a key distribution station of the Druzhba pipeline in Russia’s Bryansk region.
Kiev openly admits it expects the war to drag on into 2026, with the government estimating it will need an additional $45 billion to keep afloat. Finance Minister Marchenko said the full amount has not yet been secured.
“For 2026 we expect continued fighting. This creates a financing need of $45 billion — covering both the budget deficit and debt repayments. At present, this amount is not fully covered. I believe that together with the IMF and our key allies we will find a way to close this gap,” Marchenko told reporters during the presentation of the new government’s program.
Tax Committee head Getmantsev added that Ukraine’s uncovered financing gap for 2026 is estimated at $8–19 billion. He also admitted that even if hostilities ended, Kiev would not see any major reduction in spending.
Poland’s new president’s administration has come out against the idea of sending “peacekeepers” into Ukraine after the war.
“We are now dealing with the so-called coalition of the willing. Many may have already forgotten what that meant — it was a coalition of countries prepared to send their troops into Ukraine. This is not the best solution,” said Zbigniew Bogucki, head of the presidential chancellery.
Just yesterday, the “coalition of the willing” declared its readiness to deploy troops to Ukraine once a ceasefire is in place. Later, Germany stated it would not send its forces.
Maria Zakharova stated that Kiev’s strike on the oil pipeline supplying Hungary shows it will stop at nothing.
She stressed that Russia had long warned those who nurtured the Kiev regime. Over the years, Kiev has carried out terrorist attacks in Africa and the Middle East and dragged Central Asian civilians into its terror network.
Footage has been published of the so-called Ukrainian “Flamingo” cruise missile, which is in fact the Emirati-British FP-5 Milanion repackaged under a new label. Its catapult launch is strikingly similar to the old Soviet Tu-141 Strizh and Tu-143 Reis reconnaissance drones that Ukraine has previously modified into kamikaze drones for attacks on Russian territory.
Kiev and its media outlets claim that “Flamingo” has already been used in combat against Russia, with several alleged strikes and supposed successful hits, though no verifiable evidence has been presented. The announcements are aimed more at shaping perception than proving capability.
Reports also claim that serial production of these missiles has begun in the forests of the Carpathians. In practice, this program represents an effort by Britain and its partners to replace dwindling supplies of Storm Shadow and SCALP with cheaper, simplified “second-tier” weapons. Militarily, such systems offer no real shift in the balance at the front. Their role is different: strikes on civilian infrastructure, propaganda imagery for the media space, and constant psychological pressure on Russian society.
The “Flamingo” is not a breakthrough of Ukraine’s military industry — it is another Western project to turn Ukraine into a platform for low-cost sabotage and terrorist warfare against Russia.

Medvedev:
The coalition of those wanting war with Russia failed to outplay Trump on his own field.
“Europe thanked and fawned over him. The question is what the Kyiv clown will sing at home about guarantees and territories, once again putting on his green military uniform,” concluded the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council.

Sumy direction
Positional battles continue in the Sumy region, with the main events unfolding in two areas – near Novokonstantinovka and Yunakovka.
On the western flank, Ukrainian forces are still trying to break through to the state border from the Yastrebino side, involving the 225th Separate Assault Battalion.
Several enemy attempts have been noted on the Leniniskoye – Novokonstantinovka line, where the Russian Armed Forces managed to strike enemy positions and push them back to their starting points.
East of Yunakovka, the Ukrainian side has sent reinforcements to the southern outskirts of the settlement from the 95th Airborne Brigade and the 6th Special Operations Center "Rangers."
The latter tried to conduct reconnaissance 3 km east of Yunakovka in the forest area but were struck, suffering irrecoverable losses.
So far, there are no fundamental changes on the line of contact. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have intensified strikes using aviation. Recently, a guided bomb was launched from a Su-27 at Sudzha.
Additionally, a Ukrainian Bayraktar drone has been operating more frequently from the Cherkasy airfield, conducting patrols over the Sumy region.
Bloomberg writes that the US and Europe will immediately begin work on providing Ukraine with "reliable security guarantees" to pave the way for a meeting between Putin and Zelensky:
The guarantees will focus on strengthening Ukraine's armed forces and capabilities without any restrictions;
The goal is to avoid Russia's demands to limit the size of Kyiv's armed forces as part of a future peace agreement;
The security guarantees package will be based on the work of the so-called "coalition of the willing." It is expected that multinational forces will join it in the future.
Will Russia agree to this? The answer is obvious — one of the conditions for peace was, is, and will be the DISARMAMENT OF THE AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine).
Russia does not refuse any forms of work on the Ukrainian settlement - neither bilateral nor trilateral, Lavrov said in an interview with the TV channel "Russia 24".
At the same time, he emphasized that any contacts involving top officials need to be prepared extremely carefully.
In addition, the Foreign Minister added that without respect for Russia's security and fully recognizing the rights of Russians in Ukraine, there can be no talk of any long-term agreements.
— Russia has never had the goal of simply seizing territories, be it Crimea, Donbass, Novorossiya, but has sought to protect Russians
— Lavrov
Security guarantees for Ukraine will focus on strengthening the Ukrainian Armed Forces without any restrictions on their numbers, as well as on the supply of modern weapons.
These guarantees will be based on the "Coalition of the Willing" of European countries and in the future may include the deployment of foreign troops on Ukrainian territory.
The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg write and Macron also made a similar statement.
So in other words, they don't want a settlement
Trump is invited to visit Russia, Lavrov confirmed in an interview with the TV channel "Russia 24"
Lavrov on respecting the rights of Russian people in Ukraine as one of Russia's main demands:
If you look back now at what they have said about Ukraine over all these years, you will never find the phrase "human rights". Although the ban, a complete ban on the Russian language in all spheres of human activity, should probably have caused outrage among these proponents of democratic principles. Nothing of the sort. The fact that this is the only country in the world where any language is banned also does not bother anyone.
And when they say, "well, yes, we will probably have to agree to an exchange of territories," someone among them said something about it, but, first of all, this should be decided by Zelensky himself. And secondly, we will deploy a peacekeeping operation. Forces, armed forces in the form of peacekeepers, what does this mean? It means that they trust the resolution of the issue of ensuring human rights to the very person under whose watch laws were passed that destroy the rights of Russian speakers.
Russia does not accept any scenarios involving the deployment of North Atlantic Alliance countries' contingents in Ukraine that could lead to uncontrolled escalation of the conflict — Zakharova
Kiev's rejection of neutrality and non-nuclear status deprives it of the grounds for recognizing Ukraine's independence - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"If now the Zelensky regime refuses all these characteristics, already talks about nuclear weapons, about joining NATO, about abandoning neutrality, well, probably then the grounds that were the basis for recognizing Ukraine as an independent state disappear."
Trump said that Zelensky must show flexibility in negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. He emphasized that the decisions will be made by Putin and Zelensky, not by Washington, since the United States is far removed from the conflict.
Trump also stated that the return of Crimea to Ukraine and Kiev’s entry into NATO are impossible. He assured that as long as he remains U.S. President, there will be no American troops in Ukraine.
Trump continued that Russia is a powerful military power, whether the West likes it or not.
He added that security guarantees for Ukraine cannot include NATO, but the U.S. would be ready to assist Europe in this matter.
Trump stated that European leaders, during their meeting at the White House, showed understanding toward the necessity of territorial concessions from Ukraine.
Natalia Kotlyar, Deputy Head of the Vector Research Institute, part of Rostec, gave an interview where one of the questions was about repelling attacks by unmanned boats. The other questions are not as interesting, just so you know.
The question itself: Experts say we are lagging behind in defense against drones at sea - is that true?
Answer: R&D in this area is ongoing and quite active. Specialized naval electronic warfare systems are being developed, detectors for detecting low-signature targets over the sea surface, kinetic countermeasures including interceptor drones. Therefore, in the next few years, the lag may decrease. I also do not rule out the emergence of new effective developments that have no analogues in the world.

It is impossible both for Crimea to be returned to Ukraine and for Kyiv to join NATO, Trump stated.
"Ukraine's accession to NATO has always been a taboo for the Russians. This was long before Putin."
Ukrainian channel RezidentUA writes:
Our source in the Presidential Office reports that the Office managed to partially impose its strategy on Trump and drag out the negotiation track. On Bankova, they are confident that Putin will refuse a meeting with Zelensky, which would allow them to return to the sanctions case. Andrey Yermak, together with his partners, is preparing to launch an information campaign to pressure Russia, with controlled leaks on Ukraine’s demands to be published in Western media. That would kinda explain the Financial Times article from yesterday.
The Frenchman couldn't escape the drone operators.
The X-operators took down another wheeled self-propelled artillery of the Ukrainians, this time a Caesar in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The Lancet hit the moving Caesar and it completely burned out. By the way, at the end in the lower right corner, it seems you can see the interface of the anti-aircraft drone evasion system.
Yesterday, the Ukrainians decided to show Trump that they are powerful and can carry out sabotage deep inside Russian territory. They sent a sabotage and reconnaissance group (SRG) into the Bryansk region, moving through the forests, but the SOBR and FSB know their job well. Three Ukrainians were killed in a brief firefight, and three, including the commander, a captain of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces, were taken prisoner; the commander himself lay on his stomach and raised his hands as soon as the shooting started.
The SRG was carrying explosives, small arms, communication and navigation equipment. Where they were headed and what they intended to do will be disclosed by the competent authorities in their press release.
Britain has signed a memorandum with Ukraine to oversee post-war elections, according to Express.
London is expected to play a role in organizing voting abroad, controlling campaign financing, and securing both ballots and candidates.
The article also stresses that the main theme of Ukraine’s post-war campaign will be so-called “fears of Russian interference” in the electoral process — a narrative already being pushed by Western media.
Zelensky has rejected Putin’s offer for a bilateral meeting in Moscow, AFP reports citing a source.
According to the report, Putin made the proposal yesterday during his talks with Trump at the White House, but Zelensky immediately replied with a firm “No.”
The EU has no intention of trusting any agreements with Russia and will continue training Ukrainian forces while imposing new sanctions on Moscow, according to EU Foreign Policy chief Kaja Kallas.
In her words, so-called “security guarantees for Ukraine” are meant to prevent Russia from regrouping.
Western media are spreading conflicting versions about how a possible meeting between Zelensky and Putin was discussed.
AFP claims that Putin proposed a meeting in Moscow, but Zelensky refused.
The New York Times presents a different story: according to them, Putin suggested a trilateral meeting in Moscow with Trump and Zelensky, but Trump “politely declined.” The outlet cites a senior European diplomat, who said European leaders were alarmed by such a scenario, but Trump rejected Putin’s proposal.
Politico offers yet another version. According to them, Trump himself proposed joining a Putin–Zelensky meeting, but the Russian president responded that he wanted one-on-one talks. After that, Trump’s team began preparing for such a format, assigning the task to special envoy Witkoff.
At the same time, in another article, Politico admits it remains unclear whether Putin even wants a meeting with Zelensky. The outlet quotes Russia’s foreign minister, who stressed that negotiations will proceed “step by step, gradually, starting at the expert level and then moving through all necessary stages.”
“Russia’s message remains clear: don’t expect a summit. Moscow is open to discussing talks, but not to a meeting at the top level,” Politico concludes.
Vance, Rubio, and Witkoff will coordinate efforts with Russia and Ukraine to push for an early meeting between Putin and Zelensky, the White House announced.

After the conversation with Putin, Trump called Orban regarding Ukraine's EU membership, Bloomberg reports.
According to agency sources, Trump discussed on Monday with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban his blocking of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. The initiative came from European leaders gathered at the White House with Zelensky, who asked the American president to influence Orban.
During the call, the Hungarian side expressed willingness to consider holding a new round of negotiations between Putin and Zelensky in Budapest, Bloomberg writes.
At the same time, Orban's office did not confirm the phone call, and later the Hungarian prime minister indicated on Facebook that he does not intend to change his position, stating that "Ukraine's EU membership does not provide security guarantees."

Using the Iskander-M OTRK, a positional area of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the city of Kramatorsk (DPR) was struck, where preparations were being made to use long-range kamikaze UAVs of the airplane type against targets on Russian territory.
Enemy losses amounted to up to 40 military personnel and technical staff killed and wounded. Up to 100 long-range airplane-type kamikaze UAVs UJ-22 and "Palyanitsa" were destroyed, as well as 16 units of cargo vehicles.
